Builders Brunch — Secrets on a Public Chain · Part 1 of 2

Level: Intermediate — comfortable reading Solidity. No Avalanche experience needed.

Sealed-bid auctions run real markets — Scottish house sales, government tenders, spectrum licences. One closed offer each, highest bid wins, and nobody learns what anyone else offered.

We'll build one live on Avalanche's Fuji testnet, from an empty file. Then we'll read every "sealed" bid straight out of the contract's storage in three terminal commands — because on a public chain there are no secrets, only things nobody has looked up yet.

So we build it properly: commit-reveal, deposits that punish bidders who walk away, and refunds that can't be griefed.

In part two we run the same auction on an Avalanche L1 of our own, where we control who's allowed to transact — and find out which of these defences we still need when the other bidders are the ones on the chain.

Bring a laptop with Foundry to follow along, or just watch. Code and recording go out afterwards.
